DOL Youth Workforce Pathways Grants Available for After-School Training
The U.S. Department of Labor announced that up to $20 million in grants is now available for national “out-of-school-time” organizations to expand work-based learning opportunities for young adults ages 14 to 21. The Workforce Pathways for Youth grants enable prospective employees to travel to local employers’ job sites after school and/or during the summer for hands-on training and work-based learning experiences.
The DOL’s Employment and Training Administration is overseeing the grants, with applications being accepted through Dec. 4. More information about the program, along with examples of past recipients and their projects, is available here.
Main Street Employers Rally for Permanent S-Corp Tax Deduction
Earlier this week, the Main Street Employers Coalition hosted an event in Oklahoma City to discuss the importance of maintaining the 20 percent tax deduction for S-Corporations and other pass-through entities. Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and an original cosponsor of legislation to make this deduction permanent, was present to offer remarks. Before joining Congress, Rep. Hern was an entrepreneur who owned and operated several businesses. He shared firsthand insights into the challenges that smaller Main Street businesses face in the current economy and emphasized the need to preserve this crucial tax deduction.
Also present were about 25 business owners from various sectors, including restaurant, banking, manufacturing, and farming. Each business owner highlighted the importance of extending Sec. 199A beyond 2025 and, ideally, making the deduction permanent to support key job creators.
